Home Enteral Nutrition allows adults and children to receive nutritional daily requirements in the comfort of their home.
Adults and children alike must eat in order to live. Some illnesses or surgeries may impair the ingestion of an adequate amount of food to be eaten. Enteral Nutrition or “tube feeding” is one method of providing the nutritional daily requirements via a tube into the stomach or small bowel. Many times enteral nutrition is provided for a short amount of time until the patient can eat on their own.
There are different tubes that can be used for enteral nutrition. The nasogastic or nasoenteral tube can be placed through the nose into the stomach or bowel to provide feedings. The gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube is placed directly through the skin into the stomach or bowel.
